People keep saying 'I have nothing to hide' and it drives me nuts

I heard a neighbor say that exact phrase last week when our town council talked about new traffic cameras. He thinks because he's a good guy, it's fine. But I saw a report from a group in Austin that showed how that camera data gets sold and mixed with other stuff, like your phone's location. It's not about hiding, it's about who gets to build a file on you without asking. Has anyone else tried to explain this to someone and found a way that actually gets through?

But isn't control just a secret you keep from yourself? You try to manage everything so you don't have to face what's really going on. It all ends up being the same thing.
