Shoutout to dodging location tracking on my road trip.

Turned off GPS and enjoyed the drive without big tech watching.

Smart move. I did that once with just paper maps. Felt so old school and free. You find the weirdest local spots that way, like a gas station that also sells pies.

My cross country trip last year proved apps actually have more weird spots logged now (like that Nebraska rest stop built inside a giant cowboy boot). Paper maps force random finds, which is great, but an app's algorithm can dig up places the locals have already tagged as strange. It's less about the tool and more about being willing to turn down a random dirt road, you know? The magic is really in choosing to stop somewhere that looks odd, regardless of how you found it.

Apps often show you quirkier places than paper maps ever could!

But doesn't that just show you what's already been logged by other people? Feels like you're seeing their weird, not finding your own.
