Stood in line at the DMV and watched a guy hand over his phone to a clerk

Honestly, it was in Austin last Tuesday and this dude just unlocked his phone and handed it to a stranger behind the counter to scan a QR code. Didn't even ask if they had a standalone scanner or if they were saving his data. Has anyone else noticed how quick people are to just pass their devices over in official buildings?

Did I watch a woman in a doctor's office hand her phone to the receptionist to "just read off a code" without even watching what they did with it? I saw someone do that exact thing at the county tax office, and the clerk had it for a solid two minutes flipping through screens. I always ask them to slide me the scanner or hold it up so I can scan it myself, I don't trust anyone that much with my unlocked phone.

Read a study once that said people unlock their phones like 50 times a day. That's a lot of chances for someone to mess with your stuff while you're not looking. No way I'm handing mine over.

Honestly I used to think I was being paranoid but after reading this I'm totally rethinking my whole phone policy lol.
