Tried using a VPN at my local coffee shop in Austin and got blocked from my own bank account

My bank flagged the random server IP as fraud and locked me out for 3 hours, has anyone else had a VPN backfire on simple banking apps?

My buddy in Denver got locked out of his Venmo for two days using a VPN at a hotel.

Three years ago I used a VPN in Chicago and never got locked out.

It's usually the coffee shop wifi that's the problem, not the VPN itself.
