Went to a new coffee shop and they asked for my phone number to use the wifi

It was that place on 5th Street, The Grind. I just wanted to check my email. The login page popped up and it wanted my full name and a phone number to send a code. I asked the barista if there was a guest option and she said no, it's for 'security'. I walked out and used my phone's data instead. Has anyone else run into this and know a good way around it?

Is that really a fair trade, @quinn_burns? Giving out personal info for wifi is a big security risk, not a simple swap. I'd just use data too.

Just use a fake number like @river_dixon said, it works every time.

That reminds me of a hotel that wanted my email for the wifi. Just gave them a fake one.
