How I used to breeze through appeals paperwork in my 20s, now I'm stuck on page 3
Back in 2019 I could blast through a DDS request for medical records in under an hour, no sweat. Now with my back acting up and the brain fog from my fibromyalgia it took me three days just to organize the doctor visits from 2021. Has anyone else had to switch from doing all the paperwork yourself to asking for help, like from a family member or an advocate?
The whole "push through it" idea gets thrown around way too much in everyday life, not just with paperwork. We act like slowing down is a personal failure instead of just a normal part of life changing. Adapting how you do things shows you're smart enough to work with your limits, not against them.
Your mileage may vary on this but Ive found that the whole "just push through it" mindset can actually make things worse with fibro brain fog. Theres a difference between being slow at paperwork and having your cognitive function genuinely bounce off a wall after an hour. Might be worth looking into whether you're trying to do the process the same way you did it before but your body is giving you different limits now. Asking for help isnt giving up, its just adapting to where youre at. From what Ive seen with my own health stuff, trying to power through just leads to more days of recovery afterward.
