My mistake was not getting a lawyer for the first 2 years of my SSDI case

I spent 2 years fighting my denial alone. A buddy from my roofing crew told me to get a disability lawyer but I figured I could handle it myself. After three denials I finally hired one and he fixed my paperwork in 2 weeks. The judge approved me 4 months later. Has anyone else wasted time doing it solo before getting help?

Blew two years of my life trying to be a one-man army against the SSA. Idk what I was thinking, honestly. It's like trying to fix your own car with a butter knife when you've got a mechanic right there. My lawyer didn't even do anything fancy, he just knew which forms to shove where and suddenly I looked like a real person instead of some guy who typed up his case on a napkin. I mean, the system is broken enough without us making it harder on ourselves. Maybe it's just me but I think the government paperwork gremlins get a kick out of watching people flail around solo.

Those gremlins definitely kicked back with popcorn watching you fight that butter knife.
