Talked to a paralegal about SSDI timelines and it hit different...
She told me the average appeal takes 18 months in our district and I realized my 4 month wait was just the beginning.

18 months!?? that is insane. my buddy is on month 14 and they keep saying "under review" like it means something. can't imagine being told upfront it might take that long, would probably just give up.

The whole "just keep waiting" thing is like a disease in modern life honestly. It's not just government stuff or visa applications, it's everywhere. You call your internet provider about a billing error and they put you on hold for 45 minutes. You try to return a defective item and suddenly you're in a week long email chain with a bot. Even trying to get a doctor's appointment now feels like you're applying for a secret club. People just accept it as normal but it's actually kinda broken. The worst part is how nothing ever gets faster or better, it just keeps getting slower and then they act surprised when you're frustrated.
