Was I wrong about hiring a lawyer for my SSDI appeal? Ngl I doubted it at first

Honestly, I was real skeptical about getting a disability lawyer for my SSDI appeal. Figured they'd just take a cut of my back pay and not do much more than I could myself. But after my first hearing got denied in 8 months, I caved and hired one from Allsup in Chicago. Tbh she found three pieces of medical evidence my doctor never sent in, and I won on reconsideration. Has anyone else had the opposite experience where the lawyer did nothing useful?

Allsup helped my cousin too, actually found a note from 2019 her surgeon wrote that basically said she couldn't lift anything. But you gotta remember those contingency lawyers only get paid if you win, so a bad one doesn't have much incentive to try hard after they file. Honestly, the ones that just fill out forms and wait are the ones you hear about losing cases. Did your lawyer even look at your medical file before the hearing or just show up cold? I bet that makes all the difference.

Maybe my lazy lawyer just wanted to cash in on a nap too.
