Am I the only one who thinks Palmolive beats Dawn for greasy cast iron?
I ran a side by side test last weekend on a pan with 3 days of baked on bacon grease and Palmolive cut through it in half the time Dawn did, but my roommate swears Dawn is better for everyday stuff so which one do you guys reach for when the pans are really bad?

Right, Palmolive is definitely the heavy lifter for the nasty stuff. But I actually keep both under the sink. Use the Dawn for quick washes and then bring out the green stuff once a week when the pan starts looking rough. Do you find you have to scrub harder with the Dawn when the grease is really bad?

Swapping to a stronger soap might actually be damaging your pan's seasoning long term. Dawn is milder and won't strip the polymerized oil layers as fast, so you end up reseasoning less often. Palmolive is great for a deep clean but using it every time will leave you with a bare pan that rusts easier. Have you noticed your cast iron getting patchy or sticky after heavy Palmolive use?
