Busted my favorite mixing bowl with gritty Dawn residue

Last Tuesday I was scrubbing a greasy baking pan and used a squirt of Dawn that had dried into a crusty clump around the nozzle. That gunk acted like sandpaper and I ended up cracking my big ceramic mixing bowl right down the middle. I've been using that bowl for like 8 years and it was my go-to for everything. Has anyone else ruined a dish or tool from old dried soap buildup on the bottle?

Eight years of using that same Dawn bottle and I never thought twice about the crust. Now I check every bottle I own before I grab it and I bet I'm not the only one who's going to be a little more careful. That gritty residue really is like sandpaper on ceramic, I learned that the hard way. I used to just ignore the gunk around the nozzle too.

Blame the Dawn crust, but at least now you have an excuse to buy a new bowl!

Funny how breaking something small makes you rethink all the little things we replace. That chipped bowl, the scratched pan, the faded towel - suddenly you see them everywhere. You end up with a whole new set before you even planned to shop.
