Tried that fancy organic dish soap everyone raves about and my glasses came out cloudy

Picked up a bottle of Somebody brand soap at Whole Foods for $8 and after a week of use, all my drinking glasses have this weird film. Had to use vinegar to strip them clean. Anyone know if there's a natural soap that actually cuts grease without leaving residue?

Saw a cleaning blog that said most natural soaps don't have the strong surfactants that cut grease, so they just leave stuff behind. The blogger recommended looking for soaps with saponified coconut oil as the main ingredient instead of castile soap bases. Tried Dr. Bronner's sal suds and it works way better for glassware, though you have to rinse really well. Might be worth a shot if you're tired of the cloudy glasses.

Oh yeah, totally agree with both of you on this. I had the exact same problem with cloudy glasses and that weird film on my plastic containers. @laura_chen41 you're spot on about the smell thing - my leftover containers would still smell like garlic no matter how many times I washed them. I switched to a coconut oil based dish soap from a local shop and it made a huge difference. The glasses actually look clean and shiny now, and I don't have to rub them with a towel to get the haze off. The extra rinse is annoying but I just keep a pitcher of water near the sink and it's fine.

You're totally right about the rinse thing, it's kind of a pain with Dr. Bronner's but the results are so worth it. I switched to a coconut oil based dish soap a few months ago after getting frustrated with that weird film on my wine glasses (you know, the one that makes them look dull no matter how much you polish). The real kicker for me was that the natural castile soaps were actually leaving a sort of residue that trapped smells, too - my plastic containers always smelled like last week's spaghetti. Once I started using a soap with saponified coconut oil as the main ingredient, that smell issue went away mostly. It's like the stronger surfactants actually clean the surface completely instead of just coating it, which is what I think was happening before. Just have to keep a spray bottle of water next to the sink for that extra rinse step, and it's totally fine.
