Went to a diner in Cleveland and their dish soap dispenser was full of Ajax
The grease on my coffee cup was still there after washing and I had to ask for a new one, has anyone else noticed Ajax leaves a film on glassware?

Did you check if they were even using the right soap for a commercial dishwasher? A lot of those diners just buy whatever's cheapest at the grocery store and fill up the dispenser themselves. Ajax is made for handwashing dishes at home, not for those high-temp machines that need a specific low-foam detergent. That film you saw isn't just a film, it's basically leftover soap residue that didn't get rinsed off right because the machine wasn't designed for it. So yeah, you got a greasy cup but the real issue is the owner cutting corners on supplies.

Guess the owner took "buy cheap, buy twice" a little too literally, huh? Nothing like a greasy cup of joe to start the morning right.

@jamie_webb67 you're exactly right about that. I ran into the same thing at a little breakfast spot a few years back. They were using regular Dawn dish soap in a commercial machine, and every cup came out with that greasy feeling and a weird smell. Turns out the local restaurant supply store sells a specific low-foam detergent in big jugs that's actually meant for those machines. Once they switched, the cups came out clean and clear with no film at all.
