Appreciation post: The sewing needle I used for my helix piercing finally gave up
I was sitting on my bathroom floor in Austin last night, trying to push a 14g needle through my upper cartilage for a third piercing. The needle bent halfway through and I had to stop because I couldn't get it to go straight anymore. Has anyone else had a needle snap or bend mid-pierce, or did I just pick a cheap brand?

Always figured a needle was a needle until I bent one myself, now I'm pretty convinced brand matters a ton. @logan561 is totally right, the stiffness of the steel is what makes or breaks it with cartilage.

So technically this isn't really a "sewing needle" snapping, it's just that the needle bent because of the cartilage being tougher than you thought... 14g is a pretty standard size but the brand can make a huge difference in how stiff the steel is.

Same thing happened to me but with a tapestry needle, thing bent like a wet noodle on my first piercing attempt.
