I finally figured out why my homemade tattoo kept fading so fast

I did a stick and poke on my thigh about 3 months ago and it looked GOOD for maybe 2 weeks. Then it just turned into this blurry mess. I thought I was going deep enough but turns out I was barely scratching the surface. I watched a bunch of videos and realized I needed to go a tiny bit deeper and also use a REAL stencil instead of drawing freehand. Total time wasted trying to fix it: about 6 hours of redoing the same design over 4 sessions. Has anyone else had trouble getting their ink to stay put?

That 40% infection risk stat is rough, I really hope you're healing up okay now.

I mean you're kinda lucky it didn't get infected doing it that many times.

Yeah I read somewhere that reusing needles that many times basically turns them into a cheese grater for your veins. Heard a doctor say each time you poke, you're dragging in a little bit of skin bacteria deeper. @sanchez.mary is right though, the real luck is not ending up with a gnarly staph infection after that many passes. I remember a study that said the infection risk jumps like 40% after the third reuse.
