Rant: Friend told me my stick and poke looked like a dirty smudge
My buddy looked at the anchor I did on my ankle and said it just looks like a bruise. That stung. But he was right, I was using a 5RL needle and not going deep enough. I switched to a 7RL and started doing 3 passes instead of 1, now the lines actually hold. Anyone else have a friend save them from a bad tattoo before you went too far?

You been doing your own tattoos long? I messed up a few before I got the hang of it.

Picked up a tattoo machine for the first time about three years ago, and my first few attempts were rough... I did this little star on my wrist that looked more like a weird splatter than anything. My cousin saw it and just laughed, said it looked like I dropped ink on myself and rubbed it in. That got me to actually watch some YouTube tutorials instead of just guessing... I learned about lining and shading the hard way. Now I stick to simple designs I can actually pull off, and I'm way more careful about needle depth and speed... still not a pro but at least my stuff looks like actual tattoos now.
