Switched from using a sewing needle to a proper piercing needle after my second DIY lobe job got infected bad
I did my first two ear piercings with a sterilized sewing needle and safety pin method cause I was broke and impatient. That second one got this nasty red bump that took like 3 weeks to calm down with salt soaks. Then a friend who used to apprentice at a shop told me I could order single use piercing needles online for like 8 bucks each. Now I always use those for anything new and I tape them to a cork so I can push straight through. Has anyone else switched tools mid project and noticed a huge difference in healing time?

that red bump is really the worst" - huh, I gotta say I'm a bit skeptical it's that serious though. I did my first few with a sewing needle (like, just a regular one from my mom's sewing kit) and yeah I got a little irritation but nothing that lasted more than a week. Maybe some people just have more sensitive skin or something? @the_tessa I wonder if you were maybe touching it too much or using the wrong aftercare. I'm not saying proper tools aren't better but this whole "nightmare" talk seems a little dramatic to me.
