Took me 7 years to realize I was piercing with the wrong needle type
I started piercing my own ears back in high school with sewing needles like everyone else. About 3 months ago I bought a proper piercing kit with hollow needles from a shop in Portland. The difference was insane, the hollow one actually removes a tiny core of skin instead of just pushing it aside. That explains why my old piercings always took forever to heal and got irritated so easy. I was basically just shoving a solid spike through my flesh and wondering why it fought me. Has anyone else switched from solid to hollow and noticed the healing time cut in half?

Switched to hollow needles a year ago and never looked back. Healing time dropped like crazy, right?

Did @the_wade's friend also mention that weird popping sound when the hollow needle goes in?

Yeah, @charles640, that "never looked back" line hits home. I remember the days of regular needles and how much longer it took for anything to close up. Hollow ones really do cut that healing time down a lot, it's kind of wild how big a difference it makes.
