Checked out an old missile silo in Kansas last week - the air exchange was wild

I was visiting family near Topeka and stumbled on a decommissioned Atlas F silo that someone turned into a workshop. The owner showed me their air filtration setup and I gotta say, it put my basement bunker to shame. They had these massive canister filters with maybe 6 inches of carbon each, not the thin ones I see at hardware stores. Has anyone else found inspiration from abandoned military sites for their own air handling?

Read a while back about how some of those old Atlas silos had overpressurization systems that could filter out fallout particles, not just dust. Made me realize most prepper setups aren't even close to that level. The carbon depth is the real difference maker for sure, most store bought filters are a joke by comparison. There's a guy on a survivalist forum who documented converting a missile silo air intake for his cabin, said the thing could run nonstop for years without clogging. Wish I had the space and cash to do something half that serious.

Sounds about right. Most people's "heavy duty" filter setup is basically a furnace filter and some prayers.
