Compared two air filtration systems in my bunker - one worked way better

I tested a $200 box fan with a MERV 13 filter against a $500 HEPA unit during a week of high pollen season in my shelter. The box fan dropped particles way faster and kept the air clearer for twice as long between filter swaps. Has anyone else found that simple setups beat the expensive stuff for underground air?

Read that MERV filters work better because they let more air through.

Really feeling you on this one, especially that part about "simple setups beat the expensive stuff." I had almost the same thing happen with my own shelter setup last winter, where a cheap box fan and filter combo outlasted my fancy store bought unit. It's wild how often the budget option just works better for underground air, so you're not alone in that discovery.

Hold up, did you say a box fan outlasted an actual unit?

@calebc40 bet, MERV 13 in a box fan is my go-to fix and it's never let me down.
