Picked concrete blocks over poured concrete for my bunker walls. Big mistake.

I figured cinder blocks would be fine for a backyard shelter in rural Ohio. But after 8 months the mortar joints started cracking from ground movement. Had to reinforce the whole thing with steel beams. Anyone else regret their wall material choice?

My buddy Tom used concrete blocks for his shed foundation and they shifted so bad he had to jackhammer the whole thing out.

Wait, didn't he tamp the ground down first?

Think you're giving him too much credit. Even with tamping, those loose paver bases still settle unevenly over time. A proper compacted gravel base is way more reliable for anything permanent, that's just the truth of it.
