Picked up an old geiger counter at a flea market in St. Louis...

It was this rusty Civil Defense model from 1962 for 15 bucks, and I figured it'd just be a cool shelf piece. But I turned it on in my basement last weekend and it started clicking near the corner where I store old paint cans and cat litter. Anyone ever dug up radioactive soil under their house or is that just me overthinking things?

Yeah "test the cans alone" is honestly the smartest first move here.

I mean, that could just be the old paint cans. Lead based stuff from back then would set off a geiger counter too, right? Idk, might be worth testing just the cans alone before you start digging up the floor.

Chill out. Old paint will do that.
