Spent 8 months hunting the wrong type of radon test kit for my bunker

Everybody pushes those short term charcoal tests but I needed the alpha track detector that takes 90 days and nobody told me it was actually the cheaper option at $35, has anyone else had to learn this the hard way?

Alpha track kits are actually $25 at most hardware stores if you look around.

Did you find out the hard way that the charcoal tests don't work for long term radon averages?

Bought a charcoal test thinking I was being clever and saving money, left it sitting in my basement for three months because I forgot about it. That thing was basically just a fancy dust collector by the time I found it again, totally useless. Guess I learned the hard way that if you want real numbers, you gotta buy the right kit the first time.
