Got phished at a coffee shop last Tuesday and it only took 30 seconds for my account to get drained

I was sitting at a Starbucks in Austin using their free wifi to check my bank balance and some scammer cloned the login page with a QR code on the table. Now I only use a VPN on public networks and I tell everyone I see to do the same, has anyone else been hit through a fake wifi hotspot?

Jump right in and check your phone's saved networks list cause some hotspots clone legit ones and stay hidden there for days. I caught one doing that at a mall last month and the scammer was pulling data off anyone who auto-connected without double checking.

Yeah totally. Found one disguised as "Free_Airport_WiFi" at a terminal once. Sketchy.

Friend of mine had this happen at a coffee shop downtown. Clicked on a network called "Coffee_Shop_Guest" and it asked him to sign into his email to get online. Next day all his social media accounts were locked because someone tried logging in from another country. Now he triple checks with the staff before connecting anywhere.
