Warning: I picked a free VPN over a paid one and got burned

Ngl I thought I was being smart using a free VPN for six months until I checked my bank and saw $80 in bogus charges from some sketchy site. I switched to Mullvad for $5 a month and hasn't been a single issue since. Anybody else get hit by a freebie?

Wait, did I get the money back or did I get burned twice?

$80 in bogus charges? Man that is brutal. I would have lost my mind if I saw that on my bank statement. A free VPN that actually steals from you instead of just selling your data is a whole new level of shady. Mullvad is solid though, I have been using them for about a year now with zero problems. Did you actually ever get that money back from the bank?

Wait, did you actually get the $80 back or did the bank fight you on it too? Because I went through the exact same thing with one of those "free" VPNs about two years ago... saw a bunch of small charges hit my account, like $5 here, $10 there, and by the time I caught it, they had drained almost $60. The bank was okay about refunding it, but it took forever and I had to fill out paperwork and everything. Mullvad sounds great though, I've heard nothing but good things. I switched to a paid one after that mess and honestly I sleep way better at night knowing my money isn't getting siphoned off by some shady app.
