Found a cheap fix for squeaky stairs at my sister's place in Denver

I was visiting my sister last month and her stairs were driving me crazy. Every step squeaked like an old house in a horror movie. I grabbed some powdered graphite from the hardware store for like $6 and just puffed it into the gaps between the treads and risers. It stopped about 80% of the noise instantly. Has anyone else had luck with other tricks for this?

A buddy of mine tried the baking soda and super glue trick on his steps. He mixed them into a paste, shoved it into the cracks, and let it dry. Worked like a charm for a while but then it cracked and started squeaking again after a few months. That graphite powder trick sounds way less messy honestly.

Isn't it funny how so many quick fixes are like that? They seem perfect at first, but they never last because they don't really solve the root problem. It's like putting a band-aid on something that needs stitches. That super glue trick is a classic example, it just makes a brittle plug that can't handle the wood moving. I see this all the time with stuff around the house, people want a five-minute solution for a job that needs real work.

My neighbor in Phoenix used baby powder on his stairs and it worked for almost a year.
