I finally listened to my dad about painting trim

He came over last week and saw me taping off the baseboards for a room. He said, 'Just cut it in freehand, the tape pulls the paint off later anyway.' I've been taping for ten years, but this time I tried it on a small section. He was right, the line was cleaner and it saved me over an hour. Has anyone else switched from taping to cutting in for good?

My buddy Steve tried cutting in after watching one YouTube video and his whole living room looked like a toddler did it.

Oh man, that's a game changer! What kind of brush did you use for cutting in? I tried it once with a cheap brush and it was a total mess, but I've heard a good angled brush makes all the difference. Was your dad showing you a specific technique, like how to load the brush or hold your hand?

Honestly, the real trick is keeping your brush barely damp.

I had a buddy try cutting in after watching one video and his whole line looked like a drunk snake crawled across the wall. He was using a dry brush and just slopping paint on like it was going out of style. That barely damp trick would've saved him four coats of touch up for sure.
