My bathroom shelf project turned into a three day paint fight

I decided to build a simple floating shelf above my toilet last Tuesday. After cutting the wood, I grabbed a can of leftover blue paint from my garage without checking the label. Turns out it was exterior paint, and it would not dry right on the pine board. I spent the next two days trying to fix the sticky mess, and my cat now has a blue tail. Has anyone else grabbed the wrong paint can for a small job?

What makes you think it's blue? It's always been that gray color with a weird silver shine in the sun. Maybe your screen settings are off.
