My dad questioned why I spent $200 on a track saw instead of a circular saw

Last weekend my dad came over to help me build some garage shelves and he saw my new track saw on the workbench. He asked why I spent so much when a regular circular saw can do the same job for way less. I showed him how the track saw gave me dead straight cuts on some 8 foot plywood without needing to clamp a straight edge down. Has anyone else had to justify a tool upgrade to a family member who just doesn't get it?

It's always worth it when you can stop clamping straight edges down.

Brought my dad over to see the difference on a long rip cut in some 3/4 plywood. Let him make a cut with his old circular saw and then handed him my track saw. Once he saw how clean the edge was and that he didn't have to fight the blade wandering, he actually admitted it made sense for sheet goods. I told him I still use my circular saw for rough framing and quick cuts, but for cabinet work or anything where the cut matters, the track saw pays for itself in time saved fixing mistakes. He still thinks I'm a little crazy, but he hasn't questioned a tool purchase since.
