My dad told me I was using too much paint on my drywall texture jobs in Phoenix last month

I cut my roller nap from 3/4 to 1/2 inch and the texture came out way smoother with less waste, anyone else have a family member call them out on a bad habit?

I switched from a 3/4 inch nap to a 1/2 inch last month here in Phoenix and it cut my paint waste by almost half... the texture actually laid down flatter too. My old man used to give me grief about the same thing until I showed him the before and after on a test patch. Sometimes the old guys just have a good eye for what's wasteful.

My uncle in Tucson swore by 1/2 inch rollers for all stucco texture since 1987.

Jumped on the same change myself after a buddy in Mesa showed me how much faster the 3/4 nap soaks up paint in dry air (like, Phoenix dry, you know?). The real kicker I noticed is that the 1/2 inch roller way less texture fuzz or lint left behind on the wall. I think the shorter nap picks up less dust from the bucket too, since it doesn't hold as much paint to trap airborne particles. Old timers like your dad might not know the science but they sure can spot a wasteful habit from across the room.
