My garage workbench collapsed under a 60 pound toolbox
Built it three years ago from cheap 2x4s and particle board. I knew better but went cheap. Came home last Tuesday and found everything on the floor. Splintered right at the joint where I used drywall screws instead of lag bolts. Anyone else have a failed DIY build they regret rushing through?
That's rough, I feel for you. I had a shelf I built in the laundry room give way last year because I used those little plastic wall anchors for a stack of paint cans. Heard the crash from the living room and spent the next hour cleaning up spilled latex and picking drywall dust out of everything.
Geez, that story definitely made me rethink my whole approach to wall anchors. I used to just grab whatever came with the shelf and call it good, but now I'm all about those toggle bolts or hitting a stud. @park.miles is right though (at least about the rebuild part), once you mess up bad enough you never make that mistake again.
