Unpopular opinion: You don't need a $200 level for hanging shelves

Had a guy at the hardware store last weekend try to sell me on some fancy laser level for a simple shelf job. I told him I just use a 3-foot spirit level I got for $8 at a garage sale 15 years ago. He looked at me like I was crazy, but my shelves still came out straight. Has anyone else had a salesperson try to upsell them on something way overkill for their project?

Yeah my cheap bubble level from the dollar store works just fine.

Ha! I grabbed a cheap one from Harbor Freight and it hasn't let me down either @calebc40.

A good laser level saves me tons of time on every project, totally worth it.
