Debate: Is the tape-on-shoelace trick actually better than a new aglet?

I've been fixing aglets with super glue for years, but my buddy swears by wrapping electrical tape around the frayed end. I tried it on my hiking boots last week, and the tape lasted maybe 3 miles before peeling off. But he says I wrapped it too loose. What's your take for keeping laces from unraveling without buying new ones? I'm starting to think tape fails faster than glue in wet weather.

Maybe tape just wanted to explore the great outdoors on its own adventure. Guess glue is the loyal homie that stays.

Wrapped tape around my work boots once and it lasted about 4 miles. Tight wrap is key, but glue still holds way better in rain or mud. Tape's just a temporary fix for me.

Notice how tape is always that quick fix that sounds good on paper but falls apart when conditions get real. Same thing with cheap phone cases or those "just add water" repair kits they sell at hardware stores. We all learn the hard way that convenience usually means "good enough for right now, not for later.
