Why does everyone think duct tape fixes everything? Just had to redo a pipe wrap job 3 times because I used it instead of electrical tape.
Spent 2 hours yesterday re-wrapping a leaky copper pipe under my sink after the duct tape I used first just slid off when it got wet. Then I grabbed some old bicycle inner tube strips I had in the garage and zip ties from an old computer case, and that held tight through 4 test flushes. Has anyone else found a better use for random rubber bits than the obvious tape fix?

So have you ever tried using old bicycle inner tubes as a substitute for both tape and rubber gaskets? I cut strips of them for all sorts of things now, like wrapping leaky hose connections or padding sharp edges on tools. The rubber grabs way better than any tape I've tried, especially when there's moisture involved. I actually keep a few cut sections in my garage just for this kind of fix, because duct tape just can't handle that constant wet environment. Your zip tie idea is smart too, I've done that with metal hose clamps on inner tube strips and it seals up shockingly well. Mileage may vary based on the pipe material and water pressure though.

Same here with those inner tubes, @ryanm60 black rubber bag ruined my dryer hose but the tube fix barely cost me a dime.
