Bought a $5 shoe rack for my cans and it saved my pantry

I used to stack canned goods in my pantry like a maniac. They'd tumble out every time I opened the door and half the time I'd buy duplicate cans because I couldn't see what I had. Then about 6 months ago I saw a plastic shoe rack at a garage sale for 5 bucks. I bolted it to the inside of my pantry door and now all my cans sit in neat rows on each shelf. I can see every label at a glance. No more cans rolling under the fridge. Has anyone else repurposed cheap storage racks for their kitchen mess?

Hold on, I gotta say that sounds like a bad idea to me. Bolting a flimsy plastic shoe rack to a door is just asking for it to pull loose and dump all those cans on the floor. I'd rather just deal with a messy pantry than risk having a shelf full of cans crash down every time someone opens the door too hard.

True story, I did the same thing with a cheap wire rack and it rules.

Maybe the real issue isn't the rack, but that people are yanking doors open when they should be using a gentle push. A little hinge soft-close thing would solve the whole problem without changing anything else.
