@blakestone I feel that, I had the same issue with my setup. Took me forever to realize I had the check valve installed backwards. I just put a sharpie mark on the flow direction and now I double check it every time I mess with the connections.

Man I feel his pain because I did the SAME thing with my rain barrel setup last spring. I spent a good two weeks scratching my head wondering why the water pressure was TERRIBLE and why dirt kept getting kicked back into the barrel. What finally clued me in was when I traced the hose with my finger and realized the arrows on the connector were pointing the wrong way. I ended up just swapping the fittings around and marking the intake with a piece of red tape so I wouldn't mess it up again. Another thing that helped was keeping a short piece of clear tubing near the connection so I could actually SEE which direction the water was flowing. After that, everything worked perfect and I felt like a complete idiot for not catching it sooner.
