Tried using pine needles for kindling and almost smoked out my whole property
Thought I was being clever gathering dry pine needles from the woods behind my shed last week. Lit one bundle and it exploded into a smoke bomb that filled my campsite and had me coughing for 20 minutes. Anyone else find a weird material that backfired as fire starter?

Always thought pine needles were perfect, but that experience changed my mind real quick.

Man, @angelaw78 I feel that so hard. I was the same way - thought pine needles were basically the all natural easy cleanup option. Then I put them down thick under some big pines and they just matted into this gross spongy layer that water couldn't even get through. Killed a whole patch of my garden. Learned that one the hard way for sure.
