My sign fell apart during the march and I had to improvise
Was at the climate rally downtown last Saturday. My friend helped me glue a poster board to a wooden dowel but we used cheap craft glue. About 20 minutes into the walk the board started peeling off. I ended up ripping out my hoodie drawstring and wrapping it around the dowel to hold the board in place. Looked goofy but at least I got to keep marching. Anyone else had their sign fail mid rally?

That bedsheet trick the_hayden mentioned is the real deal, I switched to it after my third sign snapped at the pole. Just staple the sheet tight around the stick a few times and you're good even in wind or rain. Way less embarrassing than parading around with a bent piece of cardboard.

And honestly marydavis has a point. Shouting is way more reliable than some DIY cardboard situation that falls apart the second a breeze hits it. I've had signs rip on me during a protest before and after that I just started painting stuff directly onto an old bedsheet and tying it to a stick. Way less likely to fail and you can fold it up and put it in your pocket when you're done. Plus you save money on poster board which is getting stupid expensive these days anyway.

Ngl this is why I skip the whole sign thing and just shout louder. Saves the hassle of stuff falling apart and you can use both hands for snacks.

That drawstring hack is honestly genius though. Last year at a housing rights march I taped my sign to a broom handle with packing tape and within ten minutes the whole thing had twisted around backwards so it was just reading "RENT IS" to the crowd behind me. I finished the march holding it upside down over my head like an idiot. Your hoodie string idea beats my tape job by a mile.
