Wasted $80 on waterproof poster board that fell apart in 10 minutes of rain

Bought that fancy corrugated plastic board at the craft store thinking it would last through a downpour, but the ink just slid right off when it got wet. Turns out you need special solvent markers or paint markers, not just regular sharpies. Has anyone found a cheap way to seal regular poster board against rain?

Wait, wait wait... you actually USED regular Sharpies on that plastic board?? Oh no honey, that's a recipe for disaster right there! I mean I feel for you, losing $80 like that is rough, but those markers never stick to anything waterproof. And yeah, Brian's right about the acrylic sealer, but I just can't even believe nobody warned you about the marker thing first... like, that's the kind of mistake you only make once though, right? That dollar store sealer does work though, just don't skip the light coats part or you'll end up with a crinkled mess like my first attempt turned out.

Man I did the EXACT same thing last week, spent way too much on that plastic board for a yard sign and watched my writing just wash down the driveway. My neighbor recommended spraying regular poster board with clear acrylic sealer from the dollar store but I haven't tried it yet because I'm scared I'll mess it up again.

Actually the dollar store acrylic sealer works fine, I've used it on poster board for a couple of years now... you just gotta be patient and do light coats. Wait like 15 minutes between each pass and don't try to soak it all at once or it'll warp the paper. Also make sure you seal both sides, not just the front, or the moisture will curl it up from the back. Oh and do it outside or in a garage, that spray really stinks up the house.
