Painted my dish with metallic paint, signal dropped by 60%

I wanted my homemade 1.2 meter dish to look less rusty so I put a coat of Rust-Oleum metallic silver on it last weekend. After the paint dried I aimed it at Galaxy 19 and got nothing. Checked the LNB, cables, all fine. Scraped the paint off the inner surface and the signal came right back. Learned the hard way that any metallic paint acts like a shield and kills the signal. Anybody else run into this with a specific paint they used?

shiny thing that looks good ends up being the thing that blocks signal" - dude that is painfully true. @shanef34 same thing happened to me with one of those metallic automotive sprays, signal just tanked. I figured paint is paint, nope.

@shanef34 it's wild how often the shiny thing that looks good ends up being the thing that blocks signal.

I used to think metallic paint was just a color thing and wouldn't mess with RF at all. Your post totally changed my mind, I never would have guessed it could act like a shield like that.
