Rant: My neighbor's Ring doorbell caught me fixing my own roof and I got weird about it

I was up on a ladder replacing a shingle on my own house last Tuesday and realized my neighbor's camera had been pointed at me the whole time. It hit me different because I build surveillance setups for clients all day but never think about being on the other end of the lens. Has anyone else ever gotten weirded out after realizing you're the one being watched in your own neighborhood?

Our Ring doorbell picks up everything on our block too so I get it. I actually moved the angle on mine after I caught myself on the playback one day and realized how much of my neighbor's driveway it was showing. What worked for me was just walking over and talking to the guy about it. I told him I noticed his camera was pointed my way and asked if we could adjust things so we both felt comfortable. He was super chill about it and we ended up pointing both our cameras a little more toward our own front doors.

Yeah, that whole "caught myself on the playback" thing is too real. I had the exact same wake-up call a couple months back. I was just scrolling through my footage to see who let their dog poop on my lawn and I realized I could practically see into my neighbor's living room window. Made me feel like a total creep even though I never meant to point it that way. So I get what you're saying about talking to the guy face to face. That's the way to do it too. I just walked over one afternoon, said hey, and told him straight up I was gonna angle mine down more and asked if he wanted to check his too. He was cool about it and now we both just point at our own front stoops. Way better than stewing about it or posting on Nextdoor.

@the_drew I used to think people were overreacting about cameras pointing where they shouldn't but your story and Michael's both make a lot of sense. Face to face talk seems like the only way to handle it without things getting weird.
