That 'hidden' camera I mounted inside a smoke detector was a waste of time

Put one in my kitchen in Phoenix after a break-in down the street. The fisheye lens gave me a view of the toaster and nothing else. Plus the IR LEDs bled through the plastic like a Christmas tree. Anyone else tried hollowing out electronics and regretted the blind spots?

Tried the same thing and got nothing but a blurry ceiling shot.

Wait are you sure you tried it the right way? I messed up the first time cause I didn't hold my phone steady enough and got basically the same thing lol. You gotta brace your elbows against something solid or it's just gonna be a shaky mess.

@the_tessa did mention bracing your elbows, and I read somewhere that using a wall for support helps a lot with the ceiling shots. Something about the camera sensors needing absolute stillness for the dark night sky stuff. Might be worth trying again with a doorframe or something solid behind you.
