I used to think cheaper drafting paper was fine until a client called me out

I always bought the budget 24lb bond paper for my architectural sketches, saved a bunch of cash. Last month a client in Denver sent back a set of prints saying the lines looked fuzzy and unprofessional, and I realized the paper was bleeding the ink. Has anyone else had a client complain about paper quality and switch to something like 32lb vellum?

Double check that wasn't just a printer issue before you spend more on paper. Cheap bond paper works fine for most clients if you let the ink dry and use the right printer settings. Overthinking paper quality usually ends up costing you money for no real return.

Heard a print shop guy say the same thing about drying time being the real trick.

The drying time thing is no joke. I started running a cheap desk fan pointed at the output tray and that alone cut way down on smudges, even with basic copy paper. Ended up switching to a 24lb bond because the lighter stuff would curl up from the fan, but no extra cost on ink or settings.
