Overheard a senior drafter say 'the model is the contract' during a site walk in Tacoma

We were checking a steel frame install against our shop drawings, and he pointed out a tiny clash the 3D model caught that the 2D plans didn't show. It made me realize I rely too much on the 2D views for my own checks. Do you guys have a standard review process for your models before you call them done?

That's a solid lesson to learn early.

Honestly, that phrase drives me nuts. A model is just a fancy picture, not a legal document. The stamped 2D plans are what you actually sign and build from, so that's where the real focus should be. I've seen too many jobs get hung up on chasing perfect 3D details that don't change the final build at all.

Heard a guy say models catch stuff plans miss, worth a second look.

Totally get that, @the_christopher. My old 2D blind spots were... yeah.
