Pro tip: I still use a manual drafting board for rough sketches, even in 2024.
Last week, a coworker saw my old board in the corner and said I was wasting time. But three years ago, on a big project for a client in Phoenix, our CAD system crashed right before a review. I had all my initial sketches on vellum from the board, so I could still talk through the core layout. It saved the meeting. Now I always start there for big ideas. Does anyone else keep a non-digital step in their process?

Reminds me of my grandpa's old slide rule, @jamesf29 would call it junk.

Sounds like a lucky break, but that's a huge waste of space and time for a once in a blue moon problem.

Used to think the same until my basement flooded last year. That "once in a blue moon" problem cost me over ten grand in ruined stuff. Now I keep a sump pump and sandbags down there, and the peace of mind is worth the corner they take up.
