Shoutout to grid paper for catching my measurement error
I was sketching a mechanical part freehand. The grid lines helped me spot a misaligned dimension right away. Do you ever use grid paper for rough drafts?

What grid size do you find works best for mechanical sketches, like 5mm or the 1/4 inch stuff?

Honestly, do you actually like the bigger grids? I stuck with 5mm for years after what @wendy820 said about fewer redraws, felt like a chore at first but it totally clicked.

Bigger grids are a game changer for messy first drafts. My 7mm dot grid is perfect for when an idea hits fast and ugly. The extra space lets me scribble notes and arrows right in the squares without it turning into a total mess. It's like having a built-in margin for error before I clean anything up.
