Warning: I was using the wrong layer for my architectural details for 3 years

I finally figured out why my floor plan annotations kept looking messy compared to the senior drafter's work. Turns out I was placing all my dimensions and notes on the same layer as the walls. My boss pulled me aside last Thursday and showed me his setup with separate layers for each type of notation. Now my drawings look clean and everything is easier to edit. Has anyone else been making a simple layer mistake like this for too long?

Oh man I literally just read a thread on this in the drafting subreddit last week. Someone was saying they spent like 2 years putting all their text notes on the viewport layer by accident lol. Layer organization is one of those things nobody really teaches you properly until you get chewed out for it.

Nah, I learned layers in my first CAD class back in 2015 and it stuck with me.

My first job out of school in 2017, my boss pulled me aside because I was putting everything on layer 0 like a complete noob. He was super nice about it but I felt so dumb lol. It really is one of those things that just clicks after you mess it up a few times. I still catch myself forgetting to switch layers when im in a hurry and then having to go back and fix it later. Glad you had a good teacher early on, saves you a ton of headaches down the road.
