Finally pulled the trigger on a new cutter head for the old 14-inch dredge
It was a tough call between a full rebuild kit for the old one (about $2,800 in parts and a week of downtime) or just buying a whole new assembly from a shop in Jacksonville for $4,500. Went with the new one, and honestly, the extra cost was worth it. We're moving almost 30% more material per hour now, which is a huge win for this river cleanup job. Anyone else had to make a call like that recently, and how'd it work out for you?

Man, I feel that. My version of that is spending an hour trying to fix a busted power washer pump with duct tape and hope instead of just buying the new fifty dollar part. I always tell myself I'm saving money, but I'm really just paying myself in frustration. Your math actually makes sense though, thirty percent more material is a no brainer.

Right? The sunk cost trap is REAL. I spent a whole weekend trying to revive a lawnmower with YouTube tutorials and sheer will, only to end up buying a new one anyway. That "paying yourself in frustration" line is painfully accurate.

My old laptop repair saga lasted three months and two trips to the sketchy mall kiosk. I finally replaced it and felt like I got a piece of my life back.
