Overlooked step in pre-dredge surveys cost me a DAY'S work

ALWAYS scan for hidden logs with sonar before you dig in.

Man, reading "cost me a DAY'S work" just stings. I feel that. Sonar for hidden logs is NO joke, we learned that the hard way too on a river job last year. One big submerged tree trunk wiped out our whole morning once, so now it's SONAR first, always. Really sucks to lose that time, but your tip is SPOT on.

What kind of sonar setup do you use? Is a basic fish finder enough or do you need the fancy side-scanning stuff?

What kind of water are you usually working in? The gear you need can really depend on if it's a murky river or a clear lake.

Yeah sonar helps but sometimes you still need to poke around with a pole. It misses stuff, especially in really muddy water.
