Heard a builder say drywall is just filler work and it got under my skin

I was grabbing coffee at a job site last Tuesday and overheard this general contractor tell his apprentice that hanging rock is just filler work before the real trades come in. Really made me think about how people see our job. I’ve been doing this for 12 years now and I know how much skill it takes to get a flat finish with no butt joints showing. Has anyone else had to deal with folks thinking this is an easy trade?

Brought up that exact thing at my work meeting yesterday and got crickets. Guy next to me started talking about his cat's new food bowl instead.

Tell that builder to try hanging a 12-foot ceiling board solo in a tight hallway and see how much filler work it feels like. Next time someone says that to me I'm handing them a mud pan and telling them to knock themselves out.
